The Great British Bake Off may be over for another year, but its spirit lived on in Belfast’s Paul Meekin Partners Hair & Beauty, and there wasn’t a soggy bottom in sight!
On Sunday 26th October salon owner Paul Meekin and his Partner Qiang played host to clients and friends when they dusted down their aprons and rolling pins and baked an array of tasty treats, from cup cakes and Pavlovas to Victoria sponges and apple pie to be judged in the salon’s charity ‘Bake Off’ competition.
Other clients and friends of the salon were the judges on the afternoon and the baking entered into the competition was used for afternoon tea and judged anonymously. Points were awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. Guests were then asked to donate an amount they felt to be appropriate. Evidently the Afternoon Tea was very much enjoyed judging by the amount raised on the day!
All the money raised went to the charity ‘Shaping Futures – SOS Village Bawana (NW of Delhi). A grand total of £700.00 was raised during the Bake Off/Afternoon Tea Event held in the salon.
The event was the brainchild of Qiang Gu, an accomplished amateur baker himself. An invitation to one of his dinner parties is a much sought after Asian Fusion delight and his aim was to raise money for Paul’s forthcoming charitable endeavour.
Paul Meekin, Creative Director of Paul Meekin Partners Hair & Beauty in East Belfast, will be travelling to India on November 7th, as part of the Schwarzkopf ‘Shaping Futures’ Team, to train some of the worlds most disadvantaged young people to become hairdressers.
Paul is delighted to be asked to be a part of the team travelling to India for such a worthwhile cause. The trip fulfils a long held ambition of his to help young people to learn hairdressing skills that will enable them to earn a living and feed and clothe themselves for life. “There is nothing more satisfying for a hairdresser like me, than to see young talented people developing before your eyes,” says Paul.
And the winners of the Great Partners Bake Off were:
